Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book a tattoo or get a quote?
To organise a booking, either fill out the booking form HERE, or email us at joyofink@gmail.com. Make sure to include an image or reference images of the tattoo you would like, a description of where it will be placed on the body and a size estimate. We will then respond with some available times and with a request for a deposit.
If you would like a quote please email us with an image of the tattoo, a description of where it will be placed on the body and a size estimate. We will then get back to you with a rough price for the piece.
Check out our Bookings + Pricing page for more info.
How much does a tattoo cost?
Our minimum price is $150, but the price of your tattoo will be dependent on the type of tattoo you would like (the design), its placement on the body and size. For a quote, please email us at joyofink@gmail.com, we can give you a rough quote once we know what you would like to get done! Otherwise check out our Bookings + Pricing page for more info.
Do I need to pay a deposit to book in?
Yes, all bookings require a $50-$100 non-refundable deposit to lock in the appointment. This deposit will come off the final price of the tattoo.
Do you have EFTPOS?
No, we only accept cash as payment. Our studio is situated across the road from an ATM, so if you do not have cash with you on the day you can withdraw from there.
What are your studio hours?
Our studio is open 7 days a week, 11am-6pm.
How old do I need to be to get a tattoo?
You are legally required to be 18 years or older to get a tattoo. We will not tattoo anyone under the legal age and will check ID.
Does getting a tattoo hurt?
Yes, it can. Everyone’s experience of pain varies, so some people may find it more painful than others. Different areas of the body also hurt a bit more than others. If you are nervous about the pain, we can offer numbing cream to you, just make sure to let us know beforehand so you can arrive a little earlier for it to be applied.
Can I use numbing cream?
Yes you can use numbing cream. Make sure to follow the directions on the box to ensure its effectiveness.
How should I prepare for my tattoo appointment?
Make sure you are well hydrated and have eaten beforehand. Please do not drink alcohol the night before or before you come in - this can affect the tattooing and healing process. If possible, shave the area and make sure it is clean. If you have a long appointment, bring a water bottle and snacks (we also have plenty of cafes and shops nearby for food breaks).
Please also arrive on time or a couple minutes before. We usually book out and cannot guarantee we will be able to tattoo you if you arrive quite late.
Can I bring family or friends to my appointment?
It’s best to come to appointment alone, but if you would like some extra support, we do allow one additional person to come with you.
Can you tattoo over scarring?
If the scar or scarring is completely healed, we can. However, it is best to book in a consultation so an artist can see the area first to ensure the skin can be tattooed over.
Do you do finger or face tattoos?
Yes we do.
Please note, that finger tattoos have a very high tendency to drop out and will definitely need frequent touch ups over time.
With face tattoos, we won’t tattoo someone’s face unless they already have existing tattoos.
How should I care for my tattoo?
Check out our Aftercare page for what you should do, and all the dos and don’ts!
Do you offer free touchups?
We offer one free touchup within 6 weeks of getting the tattoo done. Any touchups outside of this time period incur an extra cost.
